How to Lose 5kg in a Week? Let’s Talk About That…

How to Lose 5kg in a Week

I get it. You’ve seen those “lose 5kg in a week” headlines everywhere. They’re tempting, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want to shed that much weight in such a short amount of time? But let’s take a reality check for a second. Is it really healthy? And more importantly, is it sustainable?

Here’s the thing: Losing 5kg in a week isn’t realistic or healthy, especially when you’re going through perimenopause and dealing with hormonal changes that affect how your body stores fat. Trust me, I’ve been there — fighting my own weight gain after having my two kids, plus navigating the hormonal chaos of perimenopause. I know how desperate it can feel to want quick results, but let’s talk about what’s actually possible and, most importantly, what’s safe.

The Reality of Quick Weight Loss

Losing 5kg in a week often means extreme measures like cutting carbs, fasting, or following a very low-calorie diet. While these tactics might lead to some short-term weight loss, most of it is water weight and muscle loss, not fat. And guess what? The minute you go back to your normal routine, that weight comes right back.

What’s worse is that these extreme diets can mess with your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight in the long run. Plus, they don’t address the root cause of your weight struggles, especially during perimenopause, where hormonal imbalances play a major role.

So, What’s the Real Way to Lose Weight?

While you might not be able to lose 5kg in a week, there’s still a safe and effective way to get those kilos off — and keep them off.

  1. Prioritise Protein and Veggies
The key to losing weight is building a plan around food that supports your hormones and metabolism. It’s not about starving yourself. It’s about eating whole, nutritious foods that fuel your body. Focus on lean proteins, healthy fats, and lots of veggies. That’s the secret to keeping you full, satisfied, and nourishing your body at the same time.
  2. Make Exercise Work for You
Perimenopause can make it tough to maintain muscle mass, but strength training can help. Lifting weights or doing resistance exercises will boost your metabolism and help you burn fat. And, you don’t need to work out for hours every day. Just a few targeted sessions a week will do wonders.
  3. Focus on Consistency, Not Quick Fixes
The key to sustainable weight loss is consistency. That’s what works. A steady combination of a balanced diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management will get you results. It’s not about losing 5kg overnight, it’s about losing it slowly and keeping it off for good.
  4. Sleep and Stress Management
When you’re in perimenopause, sleep and stress are huge factors in weight management. If you’re not sleeping enough or constantly feeling stressed, your body will hold onto fat, especially around the belly. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep and find ways to manage your stress (yoga, meditation, walks outside — whatever works for you!).

The Bottom Line: Forget the Quick Fixes

If you’re looking for a quick way to lose weight, I get it. But let’s be real — quick fixes are rarely sustainable, and they often end up causing more harm than good. The real way to lose weight, especially in your 40s, is to build a plan that works for your body and your lifestyle. It’s not about drastic measures, it’s about making small changes that add up to big results.
